£3,600
Fine large and impressive English ebonised triple fusee bracket clock, the 11" silvered chapter ring signed J.C. Jennens, London enclosing a matted centre over an arched panel applied in relief with the figure of Father Time seated over a silvered plaque inscribed Tempus Fugit, the substantial movement with pull repeat and playing on a nest of eight bells, with hourly strike on a gong, the stylised foliate engraved back plate also signed J.C. Jennens, London, with locking pendulum and sunburst engraved bob within an impressive ormolu mounted stepped case with moulded arched square caddy top surmounted by a pineapple finial, 38" high (pendulum, winding and door keys)
** This clock is in superb condition after a recent complete professional overhaul. However the movement has developed a small problem since that needs correcting and is explained in more detail in the condition report. The clock is illustrated in Britten's - Old Clocks & Watches, ninth edition, page 500, where it is listed as Jennens, J.C., c1790, London, chiming bracket clock (The Hague)
The movement is in excellent condition and working well, except the striking train periodically stops and although there does not appear to be a great deal wrong with the movement, it appears that the gathering pallet is possibly catching on the teeth of the strike rack, so the movement may have to be removed to correct this fault.
