Rifle, a good and scarce US M1861 Percussion Rifle made by the Springfield Armory, Calibre .58", barrel 38". Lockplate with US eagle over "US Springfield" rear of lock dated "1863". Lock very crisp on 1st and 2nd cock. Dark walnut stock, correct steel ramrod with Tulip Head. Iron furniture with spring retained barrel bands. This was the primary rifle used by the Union Forces, this piece in VG W/Order and condition, with service wear
