An early 20th century Japanese hardwood, possibly zelkova and marquetry ledger chest (Choba Dansu) fitted with brass side handles and engraved brass braces and mounts with two small panelled doors enclosing six drawers, over two short and one long drawer on plinth base, 59 cmw x 28 cm d x 59 cm h

Structurally sound with a few cosmetic issues, surface indentations, scratches and other marks, the back panel has long horizontal split, metal work generally tarnished, both doors drop slightly when opened due to three missing hinge pins, the left door is secured shut by a make-shift wooden rod/pin which threads through two eyelets, one on the back of the door and the other in the face of the cabinet, small drilled hole in the face (possibly from eyelet re-positioning) some splits in drawer bases etc.
