Seneca (ca. 4 BC - 65 AD). The moral and mixed works of Senecque, translated from Latin into François, by Simon Goulart.

Second edition of the works of Seneca translated by Goulart. 2 parts in 1 vol. folio. 1st part: 4 ff.n.ch. (including title), 889 pp. ; Part 2: 138 pp. (including intermediate title), 3 ff.n.ch. (table). Condition: patches of light staining, including slight marginal loss to last few leaves. Occasional stamps, block edge marked and with occasional ink annotation.
Contemporary brown morocco with a gilt wreath (possibly from the Eve workshop), gilt edges. Hinges slightly cracking, spine showing wear. 390mm x 260mm.
Provenance: given by le Sieur de Foucheres et Rosson to Jehan Gestier, early inscription dated 1606; Bibliotheque de Ste Périne, ink stamp.
