The Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, Companion`s (C.I.E.) to Lieutenant-Colonel (Temporary Brigadier) Compton Southgate (1891-1957), MC (A.I.398) 4th (Prince of Wales Own) Gurkha Rifles, Indian Army, Commander Bombay Sub-Area. The medal in the form of a five petalled red and green enamelled flower, bearing the inscription 'Impreratiricis Auspiciis' ("under the Auspices of the empress" – Queen Victoria) within a blue enamelled band, a gilt relief of Queen Victoria to the centre, a gilt medal crown surmount suspended from a deep blue ribboned sash, presented in a black leather case with the initials "C.I.E." embossed to centre, the interior lining signed Garrard & Co. Ltd, goldsmiths, Jewellers & Co to the King By Special Appointment to the crown, 24, Albemarle St, London, W1. Provenance, from the Southgate family, medal passed down.
