CARRIER's LETTER SENT "WITH A SALMOND", COACH FRONT EX WALTER SCOTT & "Free" MAIL-CART TIME BILL; Remarkable 21 Jan. 1759 EL sent by carrier from "Prth" [sic] to Edinburgh endorsed "with a Salmond marked IA this" (the contents include; "Bie plesed to reseve a salmon fish markd on head with a Born airn 3 tims..."!), c.1830 front apparently sent by coach with bold "10d" charge addressed to Edinburgh in the distinctive hand of the famous author Walter Scott (and endorsed by the addressee in 1841 to be genuine (Scott died in Sept. 1832), and rare mainly printed 14 Sept. 1857 P.O. EL sent from Edinburgh (blue cds on flap) to the PO Surveyor in Stirling with printed address headed "GLASGOW AND INVERARY TIME-BILL" and having "Free - F. Abbott" at left. The contents of the latter are a fully completed return for the "PAIR HORSE MAIL CART" from Glasgow to Inverary & back in 12 Sept. with the Driver's and the two Postmasters' signatures.
