A FIRST WORLD WAR CASUALTY PAIR TO THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS. A Great War pair comprising War Medal and Victory Medal named to 16336 Pte G.R. Read, C. Gds. George Richard Read was the son of George Richard and Eliza Read of 37 Eastbourne Road, West Ham, London. He served with the 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards and died of wounds received on the 15th September 1916 and is buried on the Somme at La Neuville British Cemetery Corbie, his headstone reads 'Never shall thy memory fade', he was 23 years old. *CR Court mounted for display. A lot fee of £8 inc. VAT will be charged on top of the hammer price and BP on all lots.
