Of Early Telephone Interest. Herbert E Shreeve (1873-1942) A 14k gold square locket initialled 'HES;, 22g, together with three 10k gold topped New Jersey Telephone Company lapel badges and tie pin for 25, 30 and 40 years service and a Victorian silver card case, Birmingham 1869, formerly the property of Herbert E Shreeve. *Notes- Herbert E Shreeve was a British telephone engineer who emigrated to the United State around 1895. Herbert Shreeve worked for Bell for most of his career and is noted for the invention of the 'carbon amplifier' as one of the earliest amplification devices. He was also the first person to have his voice heard by telephone over the Atlantic.

*Provenance - Herbert E. Shreeve, then to his son, Major H.P Shreeve (In the U.S.Army in World War II and afterwards was with Bell Telephone for the rest of his working career) and then to the latter's nephew, who is the vendor.
