Former Bristol Zoo Gardens - After Sir Alfred Pugsley - two original sections of the iconic 1956 Bristol Zoo Garden's gorilla enclosure grille. The grille was designed to be far removed from the traditional bars that adorned most other enclosures in zoos around the world, and its unique curved design allowed for more space inside the enclosure. Surrounding the enclosure were several 'flat' versions of the grille, in the same style. When the Gorilla house closed c1983 sections of the grille were repurposed around the Gardens, notably the Herbaceous Border, as attractive fencing and dividers. This section comprising of two original curved sections, joined in the centre to make a semi-circle guard rail around a small pond in Bristol Zoo Gardens. Each individual section measuring approx: 109cm high x 284cm long (corner to corner)
