Charles I (1625-1649) silver Ninepence, 1646, Newark siege piece.
Struck on a small, thick flan cut from a silver-gilt platter, edge reeding visible on obverse. Large Royal crown with ten pearls either side, C to left, R to right, denomination IX below in Roman numerals, beaded border both sides. Rev, three line inscription with date, reads OBS: / NEWARK / 1646, 4.23gm (S. 3144; N. 2641). Good Very Fine, rare, with old ticket, purchased for £4-10-0 August 1957.
