A 19th century French ormolu mantel clock, retailed by J & W Marshall, Paris, surmounted with a figure of a classical lyre player seated beside birds, with enamelled Roman dial flanked by a pair of Sevres style porcelain plaques decorated with musical trophies, eight day movement signed James & Walter Marshall, Paris, width 22.5in.
CONDITION: Rather neglected condition, the ormolu has a matted and quite oxidised finish, birds and the floral branches are wobbly, strings of the lyre bent out of shape, dial dirty and possibly retouched, hands bent out of shape, one back foot has come loose but is still present, the other is bent out of shape, movement again has fallen out of position, its framework is loose in the case, the bell is detached with no nut, comes with what is probably the original pendulum.
