Anna Lea Merrit (American 1844-1930): "The Kiss" oil on canvas circa 1900. Unsigned but with good provenance. together with numerous letters/correspondence and bank receipts to Mrs Anna Lea Merritt of "Hourstbourne Tarrant", Andover, Hants and an accompanying letter from a housekeeper. Anna Masset Lea Merritt was an American artist from Philadelphia who lived and worked in Great Britain for most of her life. A printmaker and pinter of portraits, landscapes and religious scenes, influenced by the "Pre Raphaelities".
