A smokebox numberplate, 48697, from a LMS type Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No 8697 built to Railway Executive Committee order by the Southern Railway at Brighton in 1944, becoming BR 48697. A long time Northwich engine, its later sheds included Stoke and Heaton Mersey from where it was withdrawn in December 1967 and sold for scrap to Wards at Killamarsh. The front repainted, a weld repair between the 6 and 9. (Postage Band: D)
