A smokebox numberplate, 48697, from a LMS type Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No 8697 built to Railway Executive Committee order by the Southern Railway at Brighton in 1944, becoming BR 48697. A long time Northwich engine, its later sheds included Stoke and Heaton Mersey from where it was withdrawn in December 1967 and sold for scrap to Wards at Killamarsh.
