Found the world over agate is a stone that has been used for jewellery and decorative purposes since ancient times. Carnelian is a type of agate that is found in red and orange hues. The name is thought to come from the Latin words carnis (meat) or carne (flesh) due to its colour. The ancient Egyptians prized it for being a stone of fertility to stimulating passion and even to provide courage to the ancient warriors and fighters. In more modern times it has been worn to indicate status in society.
