CLOISONNÉ BOWL, OVERALL, APPROX 24 CM LONG, 13 CM WIDE AND X 7 CM TALL, OFF BASE. HAS THE TRADITIONAL GLOUCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT BADGE ‘EGYPT’ PLUS MATCHBOX HOLDER WITH SIMILAR DECOR, AND HANDLE OF PARASOL, WITH ‘EGYPT’ BADGE. THERE IS A SMALL BACK BADGE WHICH WAS UNIQUE TO THE GLOSTERS.
We are advised by the family :
Captain Francis Hart Toop, 1889-1959
He enlisted in the Gloucestershire Regiment in November 1906, He served in China as a sergeant in the 2nd battalion, it was here he bought the cloisonné wear as a wedding present for our grandparents, who married in march 1914.
He was commissioned on 15/12/1914 and served in France. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order on 29/7/1916, the a temporary captain.
