[STATE of REDONDA / UTOPIA / IMAGINARY VOYAGES / SIGNED] MARIAS (Javier) All Souls, London: Harvill, (1992) Paperback, VG+ Spine uncreased; The Infatuations, London: Hamish Hamilton, (2013), FIRST EDITION. SIGNED on the title page by the author. Javier cut off the title page of the Penguin edition of The Infatuations and pasted it onto the front pastedown to write a thank you for a book to which he had contributed "Elysia". He also added a chatty note which he tended to do. Association copy with Richard Grenville Clark. F/F; Bad Nature, Or With Elvis In Mexico, New York: New Directions, (1996); Between Eternities & Other Writings, London: Hamish Hamilton, (2017) FIRST EDITION. Javier did the same with this copy [ see above]; he pasted another title page for "Between Eternities" onto the front pastedown of this book with a message he signed. Association copy with Richard Grenville Clark. F/F; While The Women Are Sleeping, London: Chatto & Windus, (2010), Inscription on title page SIGNED. [ In which Marias is referring to "Mimesis" [Apocalypse Press]; Thus Bad Begins, London: Hamish Hamilton, (2016) FIRST EDITION. Once again, Javier has pasted a spare title page onto the front pastedown to send RGC a message with the punning 'beware of bad beginnings'. He is also explaining that he did not have enough time to write the Preface to RGC's projected edition of "Frederick Carter's Short Stories" F/VG+Note: In 1997, Marias was awarded the title of 'King of the Kingdom of Redonda' by its predecessor Jon Wynne-Tyson for his understanding of the kingdom and for mentioning the story of one of its previous kings, John Gawsworth, in his novel "All Souls" (Todas las almas, 1989). Javier also bought Gawsworth's surviving literary works and so on...at auction, from Wynne-Tyson in several chests. He took the title Xavier I. Wynne-Tyson was H. M. Juan II in this fictional realm. WYNNE-TYSON (John) So Say Banana Bird, 8vo, Brighton: Pythian Books, (1984). Bookplate of The Realm of Redonda on the front pastedown listing H. M. Felipe I [M. P. Shiel], H. M. Juan I [John Gawsworth] and H. M. Juan II [J.W-T]. It is SIGNED by Wynne-Tyson at the bottom of the plate; there is an ex-libris plate opposite on the ffep belonging to the recipient of this book. Also included is a loosely inserted letter from Jon to the recipient, an honorary citizen of Redonda, dated 4.5.99. VG+ in VG+ dustwrapper. (6)
