Fees

Musical instrument interest. Antique Omani Burgham horn, 19th Century. Possibly Arabian oryx or ibex horn hollowed out and with a side mouth hole. Capped to both ends with embossed silver (tests as 900 grade silver) joined with a silver chain. W 52cm, H 24cm. The Burgham is a very traditional Omani tribal horn used exclusively in Al Razha (folklore form, where men stand in two rows facing each other repeating specific poems) and Al Aazi (singers gather in a circle led by a poet). A Burgham only produces one or two notes. The instrument is no longer manufactured since the 1980's due to the ban on using Arabian oryx horn and antique examples such as this are extremely rare. This example was purchased in Oman during the 1970's by the current owner. Please note this may require a CITES export licence to export out of the UK.

More Information
