An American .38” percussion Plains Rifle, c 1840, 52½” overall, heavy octagonal barrel 37½”, with deep 7 groove rifling, simple fixed rearsight, and engraved “H. Slocomb” in flowing script; the flat lock engraved with simple sprays of foliage and stamped “STEELE & WARREN, ALBANY”; walnut half stock with pewter fore end cap and brass mounts, including deep concave butt plate and rectangular patch box. GWO & basically GC (stock split above the lock, the ramrod a replacement, small contemporary repair to trigger guard). £400-600
