A 19TH CENTURY IRISH KILLARNEY-WARE DAVENPORT DESK, circa 1850, this fantastic piece of Irish furniture making history is presented in good country house condition. The body of the desk is decorated all over with a finely inlaid shamrock motif. The top with a leather inset to the writing slope which lifts up to reveal a satinwood interior with drawers and storage. Beneath the slope to the base are a set of drawers on the right side hidden behind a cabinet door, and a pull out ink pot holder that slides neatly back into the desk when not in use. To the left and right are small pull out slides – handy for holding a candle in the past – today perhaps a cup of coffee! To the front are two columns which support the slope above each decorated with turned wood detail and inlaid design. Dimensions: 82 x 68 x 70cm. Condition: In good country-house condition; there is some loss to the inlay and veneers in parts; however structurally it is strong; some restoration would bring it back to its original glory – and ready to last another 150 years.
