CAMBODIA. ROYAL ORDER OF CAMBODIA, OFFICER, 1899-1948 ISSUE Cambodia. Royal Order of Cambodia, officer (Ordre Royal du Cambodge, officier), 1899-1948 issue
The right-hand third of the red enamel ring damaged and repaired; on replaced correct ribbon but lacking rosette. (This example is silver-gilt rather than silver and thus an award of the officer class). The Order was founded on 8 February 1864 by King Norodom I once the establishment of a French protectorate had enabled him to disengage from tutelage to Siam (Thailand) and was awarded for outstanding service, both military and civil.
It was a French colonial order from 1896 to 1948 (the period of this example) and the officer class was awarded to French officers who served in Cambodia with distinction for a minimum of ten years.
The Order was suppressed in 1975.
