Stanley Baldwin, 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley (1867-1947), a handwritten and signed letter to Hartington dated 19th November 1937 on headed 69 Eaton Square paper, the letter contents as follows:
"I am very disappointed that I am unable to preside at the dinner in February. But I do plead from my leave for the object in support of which the dinner was organised. The preservation of our Cambridge Country is a cause that must appeal not only to Cambridge men, but to all lovers of the Town and University, and I look forward with confidence to learning that the efforts you have made have been crowned with triumphant success. I am very sincerely yours"
and signed Baldwin of Bewdley.
Stanley Baldwin was a Conservative Prime Minister on three occasions, from May 1923 to January 1924, from November 1924 to June 1929, and from June 1935 to May 1937
