Indian Army Gurkha Force Officer's Indian Mutiny Lucknow Medal. A scarce example awarded to MAJOR FITZGERALD ATTD GOORKHA FORCE. The medal bearing the clasp Lucknow. Lieutenant Colonel George Fleetwood Charles Fitzgerald was born in 1808 and was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant to the Bengal Artillery in September 1825, and arrived in India a year later. He saw service with the Nizam's Artillery from 1841 and was promoted Captain. April 1845. During the Mutiny with the rank of Major he was attached to the Goorkha Force and was present at the action at at Gorruckpore. For his services he received a Mention in Brigadier-General G.H. Macgregor, C.B Despatches noted as He gave sound and judicious advice, which was well acted on. Promoted to Lt Colonel he retired on the 10th November 1858 and died at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 1888
