VINYL RECORD, PRIVATE PRESS, FOLK. Band and Title- & A CANDLE, BURNT AT BOTH ENDS, a scarce undocumented recording, pressed by DEROY SOUND SERVICE circa 1973, matrix numbers DER 990 (Legendary album SAVANNA-Collected Madness directly precedes this with DER 989). Possibly a Midlands based band (one song describes traveling to the FA cup tie against Leeds, in which they lost, which would be Wolves FA Cup Semi Final 1973). I would assuming that this was pressed in numbers under 100, as would be typical for this type of private pressing. There are lots of interesting folk elements, Piano, Guitar, ‘tubthumping’, male vocal. An accomplished recording, very much of the time, spoken word poetry, male vocal, certainly not out of place with the acoustic folk music of the early 1970s, reminded me at times of the likes Dr Strangely Strange, Roy Harper etc. The sleeve is typical of Deroy’s output, plain card sleeve with pasted front and back design, the label is plain with handwritten lyrics. Its possible this could be a test pressing, as the lack of any information regarding them as a band or the personnel could suggest that it was never pressed up in larger numbers. Condition report, Record is clean and well preserved with only light minor surface marks in places and some spindle marks EX+. Sleeve has some light wear minor toning and moderate storage wear but a solid EX+. Note- please visit Capes Dunn & Co Auctioneers Facebook page for audio clips of various tracks.
