A Great War LSGC four medal group to: 233980 / 314956 Flight Sergeant Harry Whittaker, RN / RAF. Comprising a George V Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (314956 F/Sjt H. Whittaker R.A.F.); a 1914 Mons star, date bar separate, (233980 H. Whittaker A.M.I. GR R.N.A.S.); a British War Medal (233980 H. Whittaker A.M.I. C.P.O. 3 R.N.); and a Victory Medal (233980 H. Whittaker C.P.O.M. 3 R.N.), with embroidered wings crest.
Note: Harry Whittaker was born at Hinckley, Leicester on 27 May 1888, trade a shoe clicker. Joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 14 June 1905. He was advanced to Able Seaman on 3 August 1913, and transferred to the Royal Naval Air Service on 1 February 1915. He was appointed Petty Officer Mechanic on 1 August 1915, and Chief Petty Officer Mechanic 3rd Class on 1 March 1916, before transferring to the Royal Air Force on their establishment on 1 April 1918. He was reclassified Flight Sergeant on 1 January 1919, and stayed in that rank until his discharge in 1927.
