Kings Shropshire Light Infantry 1880 Pattern Scarlet Uniform. A good example worn by Major Ronald Hope Shears, a pre Great War regular Officer, who served during WW1 with the RFC. The tunic of scarlet cloth with blue facings to the cuff and collar. Tailored with KSLI regimental buttons, bullion collar badges and the the shoulder cords Captain rank stars. The left breast with loops for medals. The interior with cotton lining and tailors label, Flights of Aldershot ink name Lt R H Shears 53rd. Scarlet remains fresh. Clean condition. Accompanied by an associated pair of overalls with scarlet line. Major Ronald Hope Shears was born in 1893 and was commissioned into the 1st Bn KSLI in 1914. In 1916 he was attached to the Royal Flying Corps qualifying as a Pilot and later serving with 31 Squadron. Remaining with the RFC and later RAF he resigned his commission with the RAF and appears to have returned to his Regiment. He served during WW2 with the regiment with the rank of Major
