HEATHER HORSLEY'S,'Fish' The 'Vertebrates' project was a self directed brief highlighting 5 groups of vertebrates in the animal kingdom, the theme spotlights the beauty and strength of creatures 'backbones', suggesting that we all have the strength and courage deep within ourselves to overcome disease or emotional problems, Heather wanted to produce a set of interlacing prints, with striking colours and an intriguing pattern formula embedded, the placement of the vertebra in each image is carefully considered to draw the viewer's eye deep into the composition, the work has been produced using a process called 'Serigraphy' or commonly called 'Screen-printing', Heather chose this medium because it produces simple blocks of colour yet enables sophisticated layering that can give a variety of visual outcomes, this print is number 2 out of 3 editioned pieces and won the Innovation prize, East Staffordshire OPEN ARTS festival back in 2014, the print is around A1 size plus the black frame (25% of the proceeds will be donated to the Burton YMCA)
