** BRIDGNORTH - "SERVICE MILITAIRE" LETTER EX FRANCE TO P.O.W. VIA LONDON FOREIGN BRANCH; 6 July 1813 EL (unsealed; official notification from the Regiment of the addressee's promotion from Lieut. to Captain) from "Auxonne" unusually endorsed "Service Militaire" and so sent free within France, but charged "1/2" and then "1/10" in London (2 May 1814 "FOREIGN" & inland cds's on back); presumably held in Paris in transit for 9 months until Napoleon abdicated and mails reopened (from 15 April).
