French niello silver gilt snuff box, probably Paris, late 19th Century, cushion form decorated in Russian style with formalised decoration, original gilt interior, 9cm x 5cm, weight approx. 84.5g
On the edge of the box there is a repaired sharp point dent which has been amateurly infilled with black pigment and a small slither of silver. On the lip of the lid there are some tiny knife edge dents. Wear to the niello at the corner. The hinge is good and the box closes tightly. Some wear to the upper edge around the lid. There is a sharp scratch visible on the back edge adjacent to the initial damage mentioned.
