** THE 7 YEARS WAR - GOBBÉ CORRESPONDENCE - TOPSHAM (DEVON) P.O.W. CAMP COVER TO FRANCE; 1 July 1758 EL (minor wear with a few small tears reinforced; sealed with wax) from "Gobbe de la Gaudinais" in "La Prison de Tapson [= Topsham] proche Exceterre" to his father in Redon mentioning that "I eagerly seize the opportunity which presents itself of [sending this letter with] a group of crippled and old men who are in this prison and being sent back to France". It was then handed into the P.O. at "L'ORIENT" (fair s. line on the front) and charged "3" (internal French rate). The writer again asks regarding his wish to be exchanged or at least put on parole ["cautionner"]. The P.S. includes; If you have the kindness to write to me you will pay the postage to the port of departure from the Kingdom [France] and address my letter to Mr. Limbry, Commissioner of prisoners of war to send on to me here [Topsham].
