1967 Norton N15CS, 748 cc. Registration number JUF 552E. Frame number 119789. Engine number N15CS 119789.
After Norton moved production to Plumstead in the early 1960s, they had a few leftover engines from the less-than-popular Atlas line. They put these engines into Matchless frames to create a series of hybrids under the Norton, Matchless, and AMC names - possibly the most confusing time in the history of the British firm. One of desert racers that was created was the Norton N15CS (CS stood for Competition Spring), and while it was based on the Atlas Scrambler, it got modified front forks, rubber gaiters, a slimmer seat, and a Candy Apple Red finish for both the Norton N15CS and the AMC G15 equivalent.
Featuring a 750cc twin, the 1967 bikes got slimmer mudguards, a new petrol tank and a more modern looking seat and the bike was then re-branded as a "Street Scrambler". Just 1,000 were built between 1964 and 1967.
This example was dispatched from the factory on the 3rd January 1967 to Beliner, a motorcycle dealer in New York, USA and repatriated in November 1989. Purchased by our vendor, a retired motor engineer in 2014 as a project, he has subsequently restored this machine to close to concours condition. The engine has been completely rebuilt as has the suspension and electrics with great attention to detail. Since completion in 2016 it has covered some 705 shakedown miles.
Sold with the V5C, the 2016 MOT and large collection of receipts.
