Royal Irish Rifles 1913 large silver and wooden prize shield with Sheffield silver hallmarks by Walker & Hall, the centre silver panel with harp with KC above, crossed colours below, Virtutis Namurcensis Praemium (Reward for valour at Namur) in scroll below rampant lion on shield, with laurel wreath either side with 14 scrolls with battle honours from Namur 1695 to S. Africa (the last scroll is blank), 24 silver hallmarked discs around the edge, the first engraved in 4 lines 1913-14 "G" Company, Capt E.C. Lloyd, Cr Sergt T. Wilkinson, the remainder blank, shield is nearly extremely fine and thought to have been an inter-company company prize for the 1st Battalion. Shield measures 80cm x 60cm, weighs 10.5kg, and was the property of CSgt Herbert Taylor M.M. from the disbandment of the regiment on 31st July 1922. Capt E.C. Lloyd on the prize disc was A/Lt Colonel Evan Colclough Lloyd in WW1 and was awarded the D.S.O. & Bar. A unique piece of history. (See Lot ???? for CSgt Taylor's medals etc) (See photo) (B)
