A good antique coin operated mechanical singing bird in a cage, made by Bontems of Paris, circa 1910. The rectangular base is of polished mahogany, with applied pierced and embossed brass mounts, and there is a drawer for coins. The cage is made of ironwire painted gold, with a brass carrying handle and ornamental brass mounts. The brass perch is decorated with foliage, and there is an artistic decorative scene on the floor of the cage contrived using small pebbles, dried moss and artificial flowers. The mechanism is set in motion with the aid of old pennies. 58cm high, 26cm wide, 26cm long.
