£380
Charles II oak joined coffer, dated 1662, the three recessed panel top over a front carved with '16 RI 62', three recessed panel front with channel moulded outlines, raised on stile feet, width 126cm, depth 60cm, height 69cm
In our opinion the coffer has inset panels that are mostly probably fruit wood. The hinged lid however has a central panel which is loose, being oak.
On the back there is one replaced panel. The hinged top has replacement hinges. There is a replaced lock, no key is present.
The front is well patinated and has a split between mouldings. There are scratch marks caused by a cat. The righthand edge of the lid also has splits. Old woodworm evident in the feet.
Overall an unusual coffer that would benefit from some restorations.
