A CROMWELLIAN OAK "WAINSCOT" ARMCHAIR
inscribed "TM"and dated 1653, the back with a serpentine top rail carved with leafage, scrolls and a central stylised flowerhead above a panelled back and downswept arms, on ring-turned supports, with slightly canted feet and a moulded edge, over a moulded rail with chip-carved decoration, on ring-turned legs joined by moulded stretchers, 68.5cm wide x 107cm high
Provenance: "TM1653"probably refers to Thomas Medlycott (1628-1716) who was called to the Bar in 1653. The chair also bears a "Ven House"label indicating that it is an heirloom originating from that property.
