5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales) Dragoon Guards Officer 1871 Pattern Helmet. A fine, scarce example, the fire gilt skull decorated with laurel leaves; to the front a helmet plate of silvered cut star overlaid with a fire gilt title strap P.C.W. Dragoon Guards encircling a silvered 5 against a gilt backing plate. A gilt spike supports a white over scarlet regimental pattern horsehair plume with gilt rose boss. To each side are rose head bosses which support a gilt and leather backed interlocking chin chain. The interior with quilted material sweatband. Minor dents to skull, gilt remains bright.
