German gold plated, white metal and enamelled singing bird box, in the manner of Karl Griesbaum, early 20th Century, decorated throughout with rustic scenes, courtiers dancing, and landscapes, possibly by Emil Brenk, the lid opening to reveal a singing cardinal bird, complete with bird shaped brass key, indistinctly inscribed to the base 'Metal Germany' and initials 'EB', 10.5cm x 7.5cm x 5cm high
The box is in very good condition. The enamels all appear to be good with no sign of chips or restoration. No dents. Slight wear to the gilt at the extremities consistent with age and use. The box operates correctly on a slider button. The bird is fully feathered. One eye is a replacement. One of the wire legs is bent. The bird sings, flaps and spins. The box comes with a bird shaped key.
