A canivet holy card and valentine, 18th century, watercolour on paper with central portrait depicting the Virgin Mary, with tiny doves and flowers cut from paper with the title 'Mater Dolorosa', the Catholic 'Sorrowful Mother', or 'Our Lady of Sorrows', with handwritten message verso in ink: 'a me tu totum tibi solipos cip amore?' etc. / Believe me to be sir / yr most sincere friend / Alex Menzes', 8.5 x 5.2cm approx.
