Enlisted on 31st August 1914 into D Company, 8th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment and posted on 15th September to 9th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. Landed in France on 19th July 1915 with 9th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. On 11th October 1918 reported as dangerously ill at 3rd General Hospital, Salonika. Recorded on the Nominal Roll for the Malaria Patients Concentration Centre, Prees Heath on 6th March 1919. Discharged 4th April 1919.
