Three fans: “The Berliner Ensemble”, with a folk play from China, a card fan folded into 8 panels, black print on a cream ground; together with a small celluloid brisé fan contained in a celluloid case and noted “The German Club of Chicago”, and a wood fan with concealed paper cockade leaf, painted black and decorated with iridescent pastels (3), The Berliner Ensemble is a theatre company established in 1949 in East Berlin by the actress Helene Weigel and her husband Bertoit Brecht (3)
The folding fan is rubbed on the folds. The brisis in good order. The cockade needs a helping hand to pull through on the string but then closes without problem.
