A good scarce late 19th century 7 pounder RML (rifled muzzle loading) Mountain or Naval Landing Party gun, the 40” barrel having raised block at the muzzle for the fore sight, the breech marked with crowned Garter and Royal cypher above a broad arrow and the weight (all very worn and indistinct), and with holes to the front left of the vent for the friction tube pin, another to the right rear for the lanyard guide, and a central hole to the rear for the rear sight, the end of the right trunnion marked “R.G.F./ No 486/ IV/ 1881”, the cascabel button pierced and with a rope loop for lifting the breech, and with a white canvas muzzle cover; on its 2 wheeled carriage, the 36” diameter wheels having iron tyres and brass nave plates dated “R.C.D. 1882” and “1885” respectively, the iron chassis bears a brass plate marked “7 Pr 200 lbs. R.M.L Gun/ W (broad arrow) D I.R.C.D/ 1882/ Reg No 1292 Wt” (carriage, wheels, total 3cwt. 1 quarter, 16 lbs), and with adjustable wedge elevating mechanism (seized, the hand wheel missing), with a wooden ramrod/mop, extractor, elevating, lever, etc; together with its 2 wheeled limber, the chassis marked “RCD W (broad arrow) D 1890/ I/ Reg.No M736”, the wheels dated 1886 and 1888, the axle stamped with broad arrow and “No 69”, with its wooden shaft and cross bar, and mounted with 2 post WWII metal ammunition boxes. Good Condition, the barrel and brass nave plates bare metal, all other metal parts and the wheels with black paint, the wheel bearings very loose. These guns were used by Mountain Batteries, particularly in India on the North West Frontier, and also by Naval shore parties.
