DAVID LLOYD GEORGE. A manuscript political notebook, c.1910. David Lloyd George. A manuscript notebook, c. 1910, recording his brief thoughts and political opinions during the period surrounding the General Election of that year, when Chancellor of the Exchequer, spearing his opponents, 'Mr Balfour... same old stale-old attack on the Irish people', offering candid criticisms, 'After the way House of Lords treated Scotland, could I imagine how a Conservative candidate dare face an audience of Scotsmen in office of that arrogant body...', and going further, 'If they had a vicious dag + you didn't want to destroy him, although you chained him + he could only bite the length of the chain. That is what we have done with the H. of Lds. No workman dare go with his portfolio or bag of tools near the House on business. We have decided to chain it. L. R. wants us to cut its tail. That would make it more ferocious than ever', and noting thoughts on various Bills, including the Land Tax, the Development Bill, and Tariff Reform, with occasional satire, 'When is a majority not a majority- when it is won by the Liberals' and 'Snobbery is a charlatan faith + and very respectable one at that', 80pp., in pencil, the cover with an embroidered flower, 8vo. PROVENANCE: Arthur Murray, Lord Elibank. *Condition Report Some minor repairs with adhesive tape. **BP 22.5% (inc. VAT) + a lot fee of £8 (inc. VAT) on each lot. VAT is not applicable on books and unframed maps.
