Medieval chessman type seal matrix, the circular seal face engraved with a device of a squirrel with the inscription * I CRAKE NOTIS ( a pun on 'I crack nuts/I crack not). The hexagonal-sectioned handle has a loop in the form of a trefoil above a moulded collar. 30mm x 21mm diameter, 14.0g. Circa 13th - 14th century.
