An exceptionally rare Victorian novelty silver bear baiting table / vesta Go to Bed, Charles Favel, Sheffield, 1855, realistically modelled as a bear chained to rugged staff, the head hinged, opening to reveal storage for vestas, the top of staff with hollow for burning match (Go to Bed), the rough fur or base used for striking, 4 7/8in. (12.5cm.) high, weight 11.7 tr.oz. * Bear baiting was a tradition popular in England until the 19th century. * Condition: Hinge loose, otherwise very good, hallmarked in several places.
