WW1 Jutland Interest - An interesting set of medals featuring WW1 War & Victory Medals, WW2 Defence Medal and a 1953 Coronation Medal. The medals are stamped 'H M Stanley 133345' but they were not originally issued to that person. The War medal has the remains of a removed inscription under which reads '353613'. 353613 Off Steward 1st Class William Mitchell was lost on 31st May 1916 when HMS Invincible suffered a series of magazine explosions killing 1020 of the 1026 aboard.
The Victory medal is also an overstrike but the only legible part of the original inscription reads 'R.?', possibly 'R.N.' and may be the second of Mitchell's medals
