A 1796 PATTERN CAVALRY TROOPERS SWORD AND SCABBARD.
With an 83cm sabre type blade with sharpened edge and full fullers, the back marked 'Woolley & Deakin, Improv'd Steel . With a steel 'stirrup' type hand guard with quillon and langets, the guard broken and the sword knot slot, with a steel backstrap with rounded oval pommel, wooden grips. With a steel scabbard with twin suspension rings, 97cm overall. Woolley & Deakin traded at Edmund Street Birmingham between 100 and 1803. *It has been suggested that this may be a private purchase item for a yeomanry rather than a standard troopers sword.
