A pair of bronze ''THE MARLY HORSES.'' after Charles CROZATIER (1795 - 1855). The sculptures are representations of two monumental sculptures made by Guillaume Coustou The Elder (1677-1746) called The Marly Horses after the chateau where they were first commissioned in 1739. Today the original marble statues grace the Louvre in Paris. A truly stunning fine pair of bronzes known as 'horse tamers' or 'horses restrained by grooms'. This pair are superbly cast and carry lovely deep rich patination. Believed French circa 1880. Each standing 40cm approx. Condition excellent, on close inspection an older non-obvious damage repair was noted to one tail. Small indistinct foundry mark noted on one base. One has a screw at Grooms hip through to saddle the other has a hole here. Clearly of a superior manufacture these display beautifully.
