A RARE PAIR OF ELIZABETHAN OAK FIGURES OF ADAM AND MARY, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1580-1600. The pair of figures carved in the round, of Adam with serpent entwined around his leg, holding the apple of temptation, carved with long flowing hair and beard. The companion figure of Mary, mother of Jesus with the infant Jesus on her arm, also holding an apple. Both figures mounted on blocks and having flat topped heads, these were most likely supporters from an Elizabethan Buffet, 38cm high.
Adam set onto a later base, Of exceptional colour and surface patination.
