'THE SPADA CASSONNE'. a 17th century walnut and pine cassonne, Spanish by repute, the hinged sarcophagus cover above a front inlaid with scenes of figures and beasts and carved with the arms of Spada, the whole further carved with gadrooning and stylised acanthus leaves, on claw feet, height 80cm, width 185cm, depth 62cm

*The arms of Spada can be seen on the front of the Palazzo Spada in Rome, the work of Guilio Mazzoni.

Darkened and discoloured, heavy wear and probable later lacquering to the top which has discoloured, worm damage and losses, splits and general wear with age, lock removed.
