Marmaduke Cradock (British 1660-1716) - a pair of oils on canvas: 'Peacock and Chickens in a Farmyard' and similar. Oil on canvas 17 x 21 ins (43 x 53.5 cms) (2)
(CONDITION REPORT: Craquelure throughout in line with age, Bar marks)
This has been in old family ownership for many years. The vendor reports that they used to belong to his father. One of the paintings bears a plaque on the frame from Marmaduke Craddock and on the other frame the plaque has fallen off and is away. The vendor reports that many years ago these were taken to Bonhams to be valued for sale purposes and the were satisfied that they were the work of Marmaduke Craddock even though at that time they were not entered for sale. Craqueleur throughout in line with age and bar marks viewable. The pine bars to the reverse are very oxidised and the canvas has some minor spotting to the back (see image) it also has an old paper 19th Century depository label on the back. The paintings are very pleasing to look at, the surface is crazed. Overall there are no big tears or old repairs, they seem to be in good original condition with replaced frames. All of the paintings were catalogued by a recognised picture expert who has spent well over 35 years within the industry and also used to run one of the major London Auction house picture departments.
