Historic interest - Antique oak filing cabinet from the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Offices, 11 Downing Street. Four drawers with brass handles and card holders. Stamped to the side 'Chancellor's Offices, Downing Street, W&D, 1LH. Early 20th Century. W 45cm, D 70cm, H 133cm. Background: Number 10 & 11 Downing St were fully refurbished and modernised in 1963 at a cost of £2.5 million, this filing cabinet, together with the desk and chair being offered in another lot were rescued at the time by a former employee. This was the left hand of a bank of cabinets (1LH) so never had an oak right hand side facing as it would have been screwed to the next cabinet along. The current owner had the oak right hand facing made for practical use some years ago.
